A Silent Encounter - Ancient Dragon Study in the Mountains

Inspired by William O'Connor's "Temple dragon" design I wanted to capture a once in a lifetime event of a wanderer encountering an ancient being.

I have chosen a colour first approach to establish the scenery and overall lighting. In the process gif (included below) you can see I ended up making changes along the way.

Over half of the total painting time, more than 4 hours were spent on bringing the dragon's head to life.
